MDY

The Madrid Chair of Yacht Design (CMDY) was established under a cooperation agreement signed by the following on 21 April 2005:

  • ADIN (Association for the shipping industry, businesses and services)
  • AINE (Spanish Association of Naval and Ocean Engineers)
  • CEHIPAR (El Pardo Centre for Hydrodynamic Experiments)
  • DGMM (Directorate General for the Mercantile Marine)
  • Innovamar Foundation Technological Institute for the Development of Maritime Industry
  • Royal Spanish Sailing Federation
  • UPM – ETSIN The Technical University of Madrid, represented by the Higher Technical School of Naval Engineering

Its object is scientific and technological training, research, development, innovation and dissemination in the field of sailing for sport and leisure. More specifically:

  • To act as a meeting point for businesses, institutions and professionals in the sector, for discussion and reflection on the future of sailing as a sport and a leisure activity.
  • To foster, promote and support research and contribute to technological development in the sector.
  • To conduct training programmes.
  • To develop cooperation with other entities and institutions related to sailing for sport and leisure.

Its present activities include:

  • Organising the International Symposium on Motor and Sailing Yacht Design and Production, the only international technical symposium focusing on sport sailing to be held in Spain. It takes place every two years, the first three editions having been held in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
  • Organisation and technical consultancy for the awards at the Salón Náutico in Barcelona – Madrid Diseño de Yates (SNB-MDY), the fourth edition of which will be held shortly.
  • Research into the hydrodynamics of top flight competition yachts.
