The Business Plan Competition UPM awarded third prize to a project of the FIUPM

A Project conducted by a Group of the Facultad de Informática is awarded third prize of the 7th Business Plan Competition which was launched by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in order to promote business initiatives which enhance the growth among students, Professors and researchers.

The competition received 415 proposals involving over 1,200 students and researchers in the 7th edition of Actúaupm, the program for the creation of technology-based enterprises.

The third prize awarded with € 5,000 was granted to D.A.I.L.  (Software language engineering). The language engineering is the group of technologies and products for the automated use and management of language in writing and speaking.

D.A.I.L is a project by Jessica Herrero Ayuso, engineer and student of the artificial intelligence master, and by Jesús Cardeñosa, Professor at the Facultad de Informática and director of the Validation and business Applications Group (VAI) of the UPM.

Language Resources

The D.A.I.L Company is created to develop and sell tools and language resources such as information extraction, multilingual search engine, corpus, text mining and automatic analysis of opinion forums.

TESAURVAI will be the first product to be launched by the new company. It is a terminological extractor and thesaurus graph manager (set of ordered and structured terms).

Another product is a set of dictionary tools which will be initially developed at VAI. It is a computer application is accessed via the Internet to manage combinatorial dictionaries, discourse markers and deictic dictionaries.

The software developed by D.A.I.L. will be profitable for those related to translation, text mining, extracting information from texts, libraries, browsers (both Internet and intranets), creating documentary bases, editors, dictionaries (electronic and printed), automatic summaries, plagiarism detection , proofreading and analysis of a forum.
