The FAE and the CeDInt have signed a collaboration agreement to bring home automation to Alzheimer's patient

The Spanish Alzheimer Foundation (FAE) and the Research Centre for Smart Buildings and Energy Efficiency (CeDInt) belonging to the CIE Montegancedo have signed a collaboration agreement in which knowledge of the FAE of Alzheimer’s patients and relatives and the experience of researchers at the CeDInt in advanced control systems at home will allow researchers to create devices and services to improve safety and quality of life for these patients.

* A monitoring of three hours and a half a day

According to the latest report from the World Health Organization (2012), caregivers of Alzheimer’s patients dedicate to their families an average of 6.8 hours a day seven days a week and part of that time, 3 hours and a half, is spent on the supervision of the behavioral disorders and monitoring the relative to prevent patients from dangerous situations such as domestic accidents or falls.

* Bringing home automation solutions to the home of the patient

The Spanish Alzheimer Foundation and the Research Centre for Smart Buildings and Energy Efficiency have signed an agreement of collaboration to make home automation more accessible for homes of families living with Alzheimer's disease.

The domotic technology, which is in many residential centres, has not been incorporated yet extensively in private households. However, domotic can provide a great help to increase safety and patient autonomy in their own home.

* To create practical, easy and affordable devices

This collaboration aims to develop practical, easy and affordable home automation solutions. To do this, both institutions will work together to detect the need of patients and to encourage the use of experimental models in real conditions and to create an advisory service that provides personalized information for the family.
