PhD- OVERVIEW

DOCTORATES, as the third cycle of university studies, are currently regulated by Royal Decree 1393/2007, of 29 October.

PhD level studies are divided into two stages. There is a training period, in which at least 30 credits must be obtained in subjects in the doctorate programme, and a research stage, in which the doctoral thesis is written. In the UPM doctorates are governed by the regulations in the: "Modelo de Programa de Doctorado UPM y Elaboración y Evaluación de la Tesis Doctoral." (Model for the UPM doctorate programme and production and assessment of doctoral theses).

The procedure for following a doctorate programme begins with pre-enrolment. Candidates are recommended to have interviews with staff responsible for the doctorate programme to receive guidance and familiarise themselves with the programme’s features. It will then be decided whether the candidate is accepted or not and he/she will be assigned a supervisor. Candidates who are admitted may then register.
