The Royal Decree 99/2011, of February 10, governing the official doctoral programmes, enforces the amendment of the offer from Spanish universities, thus extinguishing the doctoral programmes structured by Royal Decree 1393/2007 at the end of the academic year 2016-2017.
In this sense, article 2 of R.D. 99/2011 defines the doctoral programme as a series of activities leading to the acquisition of competences and skills necessary to achieve a PhD Degree, developing the proper training aspects and establishing the procedures and research lines for the elaboration of a doctoral thesis. Moreover, an important difference respect to previous regulations (R.D. 1393/2007) is the direct entry of applicants into the research period, without prejudice to the prescription by the Academic Commission to carry out complementary training activities to adapt their skills to the needs of their doctoral thesis (see Planning).
