Collimated solar simulator for curved photovoltaic panels

PV magazine international

Vehicle-integrated photovoltaics (VIPV) is a promising technology to increase electric car autonomy. Curved PV surfaces are typically required to fit vehicle geometry. However, conventional solar simulators do not allow for a proper characterization of three dimensional PV surfaces because of irradiance inhomogeneities (2-20% depending on the actual shape). The professional journal pv magazine Global features our research on a solar simulator specifically designed to accurately characterize curved solar panels for vehicle integration (#VIPV), which allows mismatch errors below 0.5%.
