Facultad de Informática of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid: It has defined quality as an essential element in its policy and training activity. The Faculty has a strong international projection and maintains double degree agreements with major European universities.
Spanish User Support and Operations Centre: E-USOC is a centre of Universidad Politécnica of Madrid (UPM) specialized in Research and Development (R&D) activities in the fields of space science and technology. E-USOC has been active for years in the aerospace field and its experience is marked by some prestigious space missions.
Centre for Plant Biotechnology and Genomics: CBGP was created with a double goal: to carry out the most advanced research aimed at understanding plant function, and to contribute to fulfil the needs of the economic agents within the agriculture, forestry and environment productive sectors that are potential users of this research. CBGP also seeks to have an educational role, and strives to become a reference centre for training of both scientists and technicians in the fields of plant biotechnology and genomics, an area not fully developed in Spain at present.
Research Centre for Smart Buildings and Energy Efficiency: The Virtual Reality Laboratory CeDInt consists of three systems for the development and visualization applications Virtual reality: a portable system, a 3D wall and a cave (Cave: Cave Automated Virtual Environment) of 5-sided: the i-SPACE.
The 5-sided CAVE of CeDInt is the only existing infrastructure of these characteristics in southern Europe. The projection takes place on 5 screens (three walls, floor and ceiling) by an active stereo projection system Infitec that provides a viewing experience immersive 3D. Their system of tracking and interaction devices (stereoscopic glasses and Flystick navigation in first person) enables users to navigate with a sense of total immersion.
Centro de Supercomputación y Visualización de Madrid (CeSViMa): it is a centre created in order to overcome the deficiency of resources available for research. It has the fundamental objectives of making available to users the new supercomputing equipment and interactive visualization. The centre promotes the use of high performance computing and advanced visualization techniques in all areas of science, business and administration.
Business Services Centre, which includes the enterprise incubator: it is an area of business to support the consolidation of new technology companies, primarily university spin-offs.
It is a place that aspires to become the benchmark for the creation of new technology companies. It is promoted by researchers, teachers and students. The objective is to locate start-ups that can stay in the nursery three years, with the possibility of an additional extension.
The Centre offers assistance to companies in early stages, advising on the preparation projects, specific training in protection of research results, and finally, studies on their chances of internationalization.
Madrid Institute for Advanced Studies in Software Development Technologies (IMDEA Software Institute): the main focus is to perform the research of excellence required to devise methods that will allow the cost-effective development of software products with sophisticated functionality and high quality, i.e., safe, reliable, and efficient.
A new building, entirely devoted to IMDEA-Software is under construction in a 7,500 m2 plot in the Montegancedo Science and Technology Park.
The Centre for Biomedical Technology (CTB): is a research and technology centre that brings together researchers from different disciplines on biomedical technologies, in order to: address major challenges that scientists are facing today in Biomedicine and Health. Facilitate the development of biomedical technology to be handed over to industry and finally, create an environment conducive to the training of new researchers and professionals in this field.
There are active research groups in the centre: Bioengineering and Telemedicine (GBT), Advanced Structured Materials and Nanomaterials (GBMB) Biomedical Imaging Technology (BIT), Biomedical Informatics (GIB) and Engineering Data Mining (HPDA).
Instituto Universitario de Microgravedad: IDR/UPM is an Institute of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) for R&D activities in the field of space science, microgravity and engineering.
IDR/UPM facilities in the aeronautical field consist of several wind tunnels for measuring wind loads on buildings and for calibrating anemometers plus computing facilities for predicting the wind loads with simulation codes.
